Thomas H. Pope, III


Tom Pope graduated from University of South Carolina Law School in 1974. Before law school, Tom saw active duty in the US Navy as officer of a patrol boat in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, for which he received the Bronze Star. He and his wife Adele have two children: Will, a real estate agent and Jane, a jewelry designer.

Tom's entire legal career has been as a trial lawyer in state and federal courts. Approximately 80% of his caseload over recent years has been representing plaintiffs, both persons and businesses, and the balance on behalf of defendants.

Tom has tried numerous cases before juries or arbitration panels in the last 30 years. In the last few years such cases include condemnation (arbitration award of $3.853 million), slander (jury verdict of $1.5 million), products liability (automotive design defect, confidential settlement), personal injury, wrongful death, breach of contract, consumer class action defense (obtained summary judgment for client in federal court), and environmental contamination. His present caseload includes products liability, catastrophic personal injury, condemnation, probate litigation, professional negligence, workers' compensation and rural electric territorial issues. He is also presently counsel for plaintiffs in cases seeking class action status.
